Troops from Ukraine have attacked the Russian border region of Kursk. A state of emergency has been declared. Now the USA is demanding answers.

Kursk – Russian President Vladimir Putin has described Ukraine’s advance into the Kursk region as a “large-scale provocation”. Russia is taking protective measures and declaring a state of emergency in Kursk. The US wants to contact Ukraine to understand the strategy of the recent operations in the Russian border region. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said according to Kyiv Post, that the Biden administration supports the Ukrainian actions. They will “reach out to the Ukrainian military to learn more about its objectives.”

Putin complained about the advance of Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk. In a televised meeting with government officials, he criticized Ukraine for “indiscriminately firing various types of weapons, including missiles, at civilian buildings, residential buildings and ambulances.” US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller mocked this reaction at a State Department press conference. He said he had seen the Russian statement and “considering that Russia has violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” this was “a bit excessive.” In his opinion, Kiev’s actions were within acceptable limits, even if the US course was different in May.

Kursk attack by Ukraine: USA wants answers

At the time, Biden allowed Kyiv to use the weapons supplied by the US as a defense against targets in Russia’s border regions. A US government official told German Press Agency in Washington that the authorization applies only to counterattacks against Russian forces “that attack them or are preparing to attack them.” Apart from that, however, the use of US weapons on targets in Russia remains prohibited.

After the advance of the Ukrainian troops, the US government wants to know what Ukraine’s goal is. However, Miller made it clear at his press conference on Wednesday that it is not unusual for Ukraine not to report its exact tactics to the US before an action.

Bulgaria supports with training of soldiers

In July, NATO decided to establish a new body that would be coordinated by the alliance’s member states. Its main task would be to train Ukrainian soldiers and provide military equipment.

The Bulgarian government decided on Wednesday to increase support for Kyiv by having Bulgarian soldiers participate in the program. In the official statement, the government emphasized that the proximity of the war and the security of Europe were a key factor in the decision. (lw)
