After Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam! The casualties are mounting – 2024-09-09 10:33:11

A bridge collapsed and a bus was swept away by a landslide in northern Vietnam after Typhoon Yagi triggered floods and mudslides that killed at least 59 people in the country, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc said that in Phu Tho province, when the bridge collapsed, 10 vehicles fell into a river and 13 people traveling in them were being searched for. Three people were pulled from the river and taken to hospital.

A passenger bus carrying 20 people was swept away by a landslide in the mountainous province of Caobang. A rescue team has been sent to the scene, but getting there is difficult due to other landslides blocking the road, DPA added.

The storm damaged more than 3,000 houses, 120,000 hectares of rice fields were flooded, and more than 1,000 fishing farms were destroyed.

Typhoon Yagi is the strongest to hit Vietnam in decades. It weakened yesterday, but the country’s meteorological agency still warned that continued rain could cause more flooding and landslides.
