Last week, the head of the intensive care unit of Erasmus MC and OMT member attended a dinner with a group of forty to fifty people in a room. Gommers gave a presentation. It now appears that several people who were there that evening have tested positive. “It is still possible”, says Gommers. “Take care of yourself.”

Significant increase
Gommers is not the only one who is at home with corona, the number of new corona cases in the Netherlands is rising again for the first time since the beginning of March. In the past seven days, 9459 people tested positive for the corona virus. According to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), this is an increase of 33 percent since last week.
According to the RIVM, it is still too early to say whether this is the start of a new wave. The institute says it has ‘no unambiguous explanation’ for the increase. “We see an increase in the new variants, but it could also be that it has to do with Ascension, for example, or that more people have had themselves tested before a holiday.”
