Bakker Siemon de Jong stops presenting the youth program after twenty years Pies of Abel. De Jong thinks it’s time to start doing new things.
The presenter looks back with pleasure on the past twenty years. De Jong himself has decided to stop, he said via VPRO on Tuesday.
“I don’t want to repeat myself or lose the magic of the program. I’ve had many special encounters and been able to have great conversations. Now I feel like doing new things,” says the presenter.
In Pies of Abel De Jong is invited by a child to bake a cake for a special person. While baking and decorating the cake, the children’s life questions are discussed.
The program previously won the Silver Nipkow Disc (2012), Gouden Stuiver (2011), Cinekid Audience Award (2008) and Kinderkast (2004). The program was also nominated for a Golden Rose.
In a special episode, which can be seen on NPO Zapp on Sunday 2 April, De Jong will look back on the past twenty years with former participants.
The VPRO does not yet know what De Jong’s departure means for the future of the program, a spokesperson for the broadcaster told NU.nl.
