After the United Nations, a Turkish aid convoy enters northern Syria | News

Today, Friday, a Turkish humanitarian aid convoy entered the Syrian Idlib regions, through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey.

The trucks include foodstuffs, clothes and blankets, with the aim of helping those affected by the earthquake, which killed more than 21,000 people and left tens of thousands injured, and its effects extended to millions of people in the two countries.

A relief campaign was launched from the Turkish capital, Ankara, with the aim of helping the earthquake victims in Idlib and Aleppo, northwestern Syria.

Al-Jazeera correspondent said that a group of trucks will enter northern Syria from Turkey in the coming hours and days.

Yesterday, Thursday, the first UN aid convoy, consisting of 6 trucks, entered northern Idlib, carrying foodstuffs and cleaning materials, through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey.

The UN envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, confirmed yesterday that the United Nations is doing everything in its power to “ensure that there are no obstacles in rescue operations,” calling for “non-politicization” of aid.

And at dawn last Monday, an earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale, followed hours later by another with a magnitude of 7.6 and hundreds of violent aftershocks, which left great losses in lives and property in both countries.

Rescue efforts are continuing in the two countries amid great difficulties and aftershocks. According to the latest official data, the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey has risen to more than 18,400, while the number of injured has exceeded 74,000. In Syria, the death toll rose to 3,507 across the country, and the number of injured reached 7,115.
