After the storm that knocked down 47 trees, the weather is expected to begin to improve «Diario La Capital de Mar del Plata

The strong gusts of wind that blew yesterday in Mar del Plata caused the fall of one 47 trees, large branches and 15 electricity and telephone poles, as well as inconveniences to circulate in different neighborhoods. There were no evacuees.

The Civil Defense area of the Municipality and the Empresa Distribuidora de Energía Atlántica (EDEA) began to receive complaints from early morning and did so for much of the day, although the weather alert ceased shortly after noon.

In the Peralta Ramos Forest, one of the most affected neighborhoods, a tree fell on three cars; On July 14, between February 3 and September 11, a light pole hit the roof of a house, while in Roca between Alem and Bernardo de Irigoyen a branch knocked down a pole and the street was cut off.

Meanwhile, on the Boulevard Marítimo, at the height of the Hermitage Hotel, all the perimeter protection was blown off in a sector of the sidewalk that weeks ago had a collapse and is under repair.

These events, which were added to many others throughout the morning, show that the intensity of the wind was even in different parts of the district. The municipality reported that the gusts reached 40 kilometers per hour and that in the early hours of the day it rained an average of 30 millimeters. However, he stressed that the rains did not cause flooding or evacuation requests.

Very early, the National Meteorological Service renewed the yellow alert for strong wind for General Pueyrredon, General Alvarado and Mar Chiquita (which no longer applies for today). In this context, and with the phone number 103 that did not stop ringing, the head of Civil Defense, Rodrigo Goncálvez, warned that the wind was going to be “felt harshly” and asked that those who were not obliged to leave their houses did not.

The official also recommended circulating with caution and clarified from the outset that, although the situation affected “different sectors” of the party, it was not planned to suspend classes.

Goncálvez said that the personnel in his area, especially the pruning unit, worked since dawn with the collaboration of other municipal agencies “to avoid further damage.”

In many cases, the trees detached cables and left users in various neighborhoods without power. During the morning, medium voltage distributors went out of service, causing power outages in the Zacagnini, Constitución, Parque Peña, Beltrán, Ameghino, Newbery, Jardín and Bosque Peralta Ramos neighborhoods.

EDEA clarified that the cuts partially affected those sectors of the city. “They were not total,” indicated spokespersons for the electricity distributor, adding that specific home complaints were also registered. “In some cases, due to cut connections or blown fuses that affected houses or blocks and not the entire neighborhood,” they detailed.

Despite the climatic complications that made it difficult to work at height, a good part of the problems were solved in a matter of hours and the guard crews also worked to remove the cables scattered on public roads.

The consequences of bad weather were also suffered by traffic lights. The Municipal Authority for Roads and Lighting (Emvial) reported operating outputs in those of Tejedor and Constitución, Tejedor y Estrada and Edison and Calabria. “We carry out maintenance and repair tasks in different traffic lights in the city,” the entity stressed, and listed that these tasks included the recovery of flashlights, wiring, straightening of columns and the restart of intermittent equipment.

In addition, the Emvial removed fallen columns in San Lorenzo and General Paz, Tres de Febrero and Albarracín, Brown 5100, Rawson 111, Río Negro and Olazábal and De los Trabajadores 4800.

For their part, Sanitary Works personnel toured the city to clear storm drains and ensure the best runoff from the rains.

The weather conditions were not the best either and in some spas the tide exceeded the line of tents.
