New York police are continuing a large-scale search for an armed man who opened fire on a subway car and injured at least 20 people on Monday. Authorities believe the attacker acted alone and immediately fled the scene.
The shooter was identified as 62-year-old Frank James. At this stage, the incident is not being investigated as a terrorist act.
The attack took place on a subway train on the Ann line to Manhattan, at a station in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. A minibus rented in Philadelphia, believed to be linked to the shooter, was later discovered in Brooklyn.
“We are really happy that something much worse did not happen. As we reported earlier, a man traveling on line N to Manhattan opened two boxes that leaked smoke into a subway car. He then started firing at the passengers as the train stopped at a station in the Sunset Park neighborhood. “10 people were injured in the shooting and another 13 were injured while trying to get out of the station or inhale smoke,” said New York City Police Chief Ishant Sewell.
There is no information about the dead. However, five people were seriously injured and hospitalized in critical condition. This was said on the air of “Hello, Bulgaria” by our compatriot who lives in Brooklyn – Lyuba Docheva.
Ten of the wounded were shot by the perpetrator. The others were injured in the commotion.
