King Mohammed VI granted, on the occasion of the feast of the throne, his pardon for the benefit of a group of detainees of the popular protest movement of the Rif. Once again Nasser Zefzafi, the leader of the Hirak, was not on the release list.

This Tuesday, August 11, during a telephone conversation with his parents reported by his father on his Facebook page, he affirmed that he “is a man of dialogue”. “To all those who do not know my address, here it is: I and my comrade Nabil Ahamjik are languishing in Ras El Ma prison. My number is 8,803”, he said.

Nasser made it clear that he remains determined to demand the “release of all the detainees of Hirak and of the political detainee El Bachir Ben Chouaib (an activist of the February 20 Movement, sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2012, editor’s note) and the abandonment of all lawsuits against our brothers abroad as well as the realization of the demands ”of the Hirak.

In his letter dated March 2019, titled “No to political slippers placed under the banner of political offices”, he had demanded in a less conciliatory tone: “the release of all the detainees of Hirak; put an end to the legal proceedings against all the Rifans and the Rifians both in Morocco and abroad; respond to the demands of the inhabitants of the Rif and try anyone involved in the violations, irregularities and crimes suffered by the Rif ”.

In this same message, Nasser Zefzafi had affirmed that he rejected any “dialogue with suspicious parties (…) If the State has the intention and the will to resolve the Rif file, dialogue and initiatives will only be with activists convinced of the foundations of popular Hirak. (…) Any dialogue outside this framework does not engage him ”.
