According to LETA at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPCC), last week, when there were five full working days, an average of 8179 tests were performed per day, while a week earlier, when there were only two working days, 5026 tests were increased by 62. 7%. On average, 60 new infections were detected in one day, three more than a week earlier.
During the last seven days, an average of eight patients were hospitalized per day, compared to 12 a week earlier. Thus, an average of 127 patients are treated with Covid-19 in hospitals on a daily basis, or 59 less than a week earlier.
The incidence of morbidity continues in all age groups, but a more pronounced tendency of morbidity is observed in the age group from 10 to 29 years.
The reproductive rate for Covid-19 infection is currently 1.06, up from 0.59 a week earlier. According to the SPKC, this is due to an increase in cases last week.
The average cumulative morbidity rate in European countries is 39, while previously it was 51. At the same time, in Latvia this rate still remains twice as high as in the European Union, notes the SPKC.
From May 24 to last week, a total of 111 cases of imported Covid-19 were detected. Most of them, 39 imported from Russia, 11 from Turkey, ten from Germany, nine from the United Kingdom and five from Spain. A total of 79 Covid-19 cases were imported from third countries last week.
Despite the reduction in morbidity, the SPCC calls on the population to be vaccinated against Covid-19. It is the safest and most effective way of protecting against severe forms of the disease and reducing the spread of Covid-19 infection in the community.
