After the postponement of Genoa-Turin, the League dictates the rules: what to do in case of positivity

The League Council, which met yesterday to deliberate on postponement of the match between Genoa and Turin, issued an official statement listing the rules – relating to the Covid-19 impact – on the management of positive cases and the postponement of tenders. Here is the complete text:

The League Council of 30 September – 1 October 2020:

– considering the current issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the objective of guaranteeing the dispute of all the Competitions organized by the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A in the interest of the Associates, the Licensees of audiovisual rights, the Fans and the Sponsors (remaining, in any case, the need to protect the health and safety of the players, staff, referees and professionals and to comply with all the prevention and protection measures in force in order to limit the spread of the SARS-CoV virus is a priority -2);

– considering Annex I of the UEFA Champions League Regulations (2020/21 Season) and the UEFA Europa League Regulations (2020/21 Season), approved by UEFA’s Executive Committee on 3 August 2020;

– resolved to dispose, on a transitional basis, exceptional and limited to the current sporting season 2020/2021 – regardless of the provisions of other rules and / or regulations applicable to the individual competition and without prejudice to any provisions of the state or local authorities as well as the Italian Federation Giuoco Calcio – the following rules for the hypothesis of positivity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus of the players of the Clubs participating in the Competitions organized by the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A (which resulted in the consequent isolation / quarantine for one or more players or for entire teams ):

1. if one or more players of the same Club test positive for the SARSCoV-2 virus, the match – without prejudice to the provisions of points 4 and 5 – will be played. according to the schedule of each competition provided that the Club in question has at least thirteen players available (of which at least one goalkeeper), and on the condition that the aforementioned players are, in any case, negative results in the tests preceding the game in question in compliance with Protocol of the Italian Game Federation

2. the number of thirteen players available (of which at least one goalkeeper), referred to in point 1 above, will be calculated taking into consideration all the players registered for the Club in question who have been assigned the jersey number:

3. if the Club is unable to field a team with the aforementioned minimum number of players (equal to thirteen, of which at least one goalkeeper), the latter – subject to the provisions of points 4 and 5 – will suffer the sanction of loss of the match with a score of 0-3, without, however, the further penalty of a point in the standings being applied in the event that this impossibility should occur several times during the same sporting season;

4. if, in a period of seven consecutive calendar days, ten or more players of the Club – who have been assigned the jersey number – should test positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the President of the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A will automatically arrange for the postponement of the first useful match in which the Club will be engaged, which will be rescheduled on a date unquestionably established by the President himself;

5. the postponement referred to in point 4 above will be granted to each Club only once during the sporting season and this regardless of the competition in which it is arranged (except in the case of the Supercoppa di Lega, the semifinals and the Final of the Italian Cup for which the President of the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A will automatically order a further and autonomous postponement – one for each of the two competitions – in favor of each Club in the competition and, therefore, also in the hypothesis in which one of them has previously benefited from the postponement), with the consequence that, for all the matches following the granting of the postponement (with the exception of the Supercoppa di Lega, the semi-finals and the Italian Cup Final), the Club, even in the hypothesis in which ten or more players are positive (arising within a period of seven days), he must play all the aforementioned matches in the hypothesis in which he has thirteen players – c as identified in point 2 – while, in the absence of this availability, he will suffer the sanction referred to in point 3;

6. the dies a quo for the calculation of the seven days it is the one in which the first positive is found and, after the seven days from the found positive, the single player will no longer be considered in the calculation of the ten units referred to in point 4;

7. each Club, to obtain the postponement referred to in point 4 (as well as the additional ones referred to in point 5 – one per competition – for the Supercoppa di Lega and for the semi-finals and Final of the Italian Cup), must send by certified e-mail to the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A the documentation proving the positive results.
