After the pogrom in Dublin, the Irish called on Conor McGregor to enter politics – 2024-04-09 10:27:58

/ world today news/ On November 23 and 24, quiet Ireland was in the center of attention. It all started with an attack on a group of small children near the primary school building.

Three of them were stabbed (including a five-year-old girl who was hospitalized in serious condition), as was the teacher who rushed to save the children until bystanders neutralized the assailant. According to media reports, the attack was carried out by a migrant from Algeria, and police immediately said the attack was not an act of terrorism.

Everyone is already used to the fact that in Europe the topic of migrants has become a major issue for countries like France or Sweden. Seemingly prosperous Ireland, however, suddenly exploded.

This same country that was considered a safe, quiet and peaceful haven is showing extraordinary economic growth and is a major hub for America’s largest technology corporations. However, when you dig a little deeper, it becomes clear that such an explosion was inevitable.

First of all, it is worth understanding that this is not the first loud attack by migrants against the people of Ireland.

On September 18, an African immigrant attacked a bystander with a knife. Miraculously, the man survived. Last year, an Iraqi migrant killed two Irish gay men by beheading one of them. A few days before the tragedy, on November 23, a visiting Slovak gypsy was convicted of the murder of an Irish woman.

In short, there have been many such tragic stories over the past year.

Such crimes are shocking for little Ireland.

In a country that until recently had close-knit communities with high levels of trust, this new reality is foreign to the Irish people. Dublin was once known for its warmth, cordiality and friendliness. And 20 years ago, more than 90% of those surveyed admitted that they were Catholic believers.

Now everyone says that the atmosphere has changed too much.

The problem is that Ireland has experienced a huge influx of migrants in just the last two years. According to preliminary statistics, foreigners are almost 3% of the total population of the country. By the way, about 40% of the current “guests” are Ukrainian refugees.

Neither the local schools nor the health system are prepared for such an influx, and most importantly, there is not enough housing for those arriving on the island.

After all, the tax haven status initially attracted the big corporations who sought to transfer their workers to Dublin as well. Now it’s the migrants’ turn. However, such steps raised prices too much in the local property market and created additional stress.

At the same time, a political situation unique to modern Europe developed in Ireland.

There is no political force in the party field that loudly declares itself in favor of restricting the admission of migrants.

The two traditional political parties, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, will not change anything in the legislation. And among the opposition, only Sinn Fein really claims power. The once formidable political force (the political wing of the Irish Republican Army) has every chance of winning the next general election. But at the same time, on social issues, including the issue of migrants, the party is even further to the left than the current liberal coalition.

It turns out to be an incredible paradox.

Sinn Fein remains the main party for old Irish nationalists and supporters of a united Ireland. But at the same time, he pays more attention to distant Palestine, the rights of sexual minorities and support for migrants.

In this sense, the famous MMA fighter Conor McGregor performed stronger than all political parties combined. One of the most famous Irishmen directly stood on the side of all those who took to the streets on the evening of November 23rd.

In addition, Connor consistently criticized the authorities and the police in his tweets. It is no surprise that some in Ireland are calling for him to enter politics. Ultimately, such a step could overturn the entire Irish political system as it has evolved today.

Meanwhile, Irish authorities plan to label all protesters as far-right activists, meaning no changes should be expected in Ireland.

Calm Ireland, however, can loudly remind itself again.
