Ways to prevent sudden heart attack

To reduce the risk of a sudden heart attack, a set of guidelines must be adhered to, according to Dr. Jamal Shaaban, former dean of the National Heart Institute.

1- Avoid stress

Shaaban said that a sudden heart attack may have psychological dimensions, noting that the nervous stress that a person is exposed to on a daily basis is one of the factors that lead to it.

The former dean of the Heart Institute recommended trying to avoid stress as much as possible or trying to control it by practicing meditation and relaxation exercises, such as yoga and deep breathing, because they help calm the nerves, feel relaxed, and relieve stress and anxiety.

2- Periodic examination

He pointed out the necessity of measuring blood pressure, sugar, and cholesterol levels periodically, because their elevation above the normal range poses a major risk to cardiovascular health.

3- Quit smoking

He stressed that smokers are among the groups most vulnerable to sudden heart attacks, and the reason is due to the damage that smoking causes to cardiovascular health in the long term.

4- Doing sports

Shaaban explained that lack of movement is a risk factor for a sudden heart attack, pointing out the importance of regular daily exercise to stimulate blood circulation, strengthen the heart muscle, regulate its beats, and control blood pressure.

5- Maintaining body weight

Shaaban concluded his speech by emphasizing the necessity of maintaining body weight, because people who suffer from excessive obesity have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, especially a sudden heart attack.
