After the Israeli army called for people to flee to it, “no aid” reaches the “safe zone” in Gaza

Since the eighteenth of last October, the Israeli army has called on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to move towards an area called “Al-Mawasi” southwest of the Strip, considering it “safe,” but a report by the British “Sky News” network explained that this area “has not been reached.” So far, there is no aid,” explaining that those who are there are suffering under difficult circumstances.

A report stated:Skye News” that the areas to which the Israeli army called on Palestinians to flee south of the Gaza Strip “do not appear safe at all,” as Israeli strikes continue.

The network quoted the Israeli ambassador to London, Tzipi Hotovely, as saying that “the safe zone in the south has been identified as the Al-Mawasi area,” and added: “Israel has confirmed the existence of a safe place for the residents of Gaza, which is the Al-Mawasi area.”

She continued: “Al-Mawasi is an area in which one can take shelter, and we and relief organizations provided shelter for the Palestinians there, so it cannot be said that Israel does not facilitate the matter with relief organizations.”

A team from the British Network visited the Al-Mawasi area 3 days ago, to monitor the conditions on the ground in the area, and how it was prepared to receive the displaced.

The area appeared to be “a barren land of sand dunes on the Mediterranean coast,” in addition to being a Bedouin area with weak infrastructure, if any at all.

“Its homes are not enough for its people.” What do you know about the Mawasi that Israel asked the people of Gaza to go to?

In a new warning, the Israeli army called on Gazans to move to the “Al-Mawasi” area located in the south of the Strip, and its spokesman, Avichay Adraee, said that “humanitarian aid will be directed to it if necessary.”

The report indicated that “there is no aid, no tents from international relief agencies, and no places to cook food,” adding that “some families set up tents while their children tried to light fires in the sand next to their tent.”

Mahmoud Al-Afghani, a father of six children, said: “You see the small tent? Look how we set it up. I did this to protect my children from the winter, and we have not even entered this season yet. Imagine the situation when we reach the middle of it.”

He added: “I want the whole world to hear me. I want the whole world to feel our pain in order to put pressure and stop the war.”

Regarding the arrival of any aid to the region, Al-Afghani said: “No, not at all, but to be honest, I have received an amount of flour once since October.”

Sky News indicated that it contacted people again in Al-Mawasi on Sunday, and they confirmed that “the situation has not changed there.”

Al-Mawasi is an agricultural area in which there are not many buildings, and it is not qualified to receive the displaced, according to what Al-Hurra’s correspondent reported earlier.

This area is located southeast of Wadi Gaza, on a 12-kilometre-long coastal strip, extending from Deir al-Balah in the north, through Khan Yunis Governorate, to Rafah Governorate in the south, at a depth of approximately one kilometre.

Estimates indicate that its population is approximately 9,000 people.

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, had warned that the fighting in the southern Gaza Strip “will provide a high possibility that they (Gazans) may want to flee to the far south and cross the border.”

Israel announced the extension of the ground operation to southern Gaza. Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said on Sunday: “The Israeli army continues to expand its ground operation against Hamas centers throughout the Gaza Strip. The forces confront the terrorists face to face and kill them.”

It is noteworthy that Israeli military operations led to the killing of about 15,200 people in the Gaza Strip, including at least 6,000 children and 4,000 women, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.

This came in response to the unprecedented Hamas attacks, which targeted towns around the Gaza Strip, leaving 1,200 people dead, most of them civilians, including women and children, and led to the kidnapping of 240 hostages, according to the Israeli authorities.

The truce between Israel and Hamas collapsed on Friday, after lasting 7 days, during which more than 100 Hamas hostages were released in exchange for the release of 240 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons.
