After making a resounding victory with a historic gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese women’s team quickly entered training to prepare to conquer the next challenge called the 2023 Women’s World Cup Finals.
This tournament marked a historic milestone when it was the first time that Vietnamese women’s football won the right to participate in the largest soccer field on the planet. Therefore, it will also become a memorable milestone in the career of Vietnamese women’s players. And for some players, this year’s World Cup has even more special meaning.
Accordingly, midfielder Tran Thi Thuy Trang and goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh are said to intend to retire from the national team after the World Cup. Both have long fought with the Vietnamese women’s team in big and small tournaments and play the role of the mainstay of the team at the moment.
The fact that Thuy Trang and Kim Thanh parted ways with the Vietnamese women’s team was regrettable for the fans. However, it is understandable that this duo’s decision is when it is time for them to rest after a long time of dedication to home football. This is also considered a way to give opportunities to young players in the future.
And recently, coach Mai Duc Chung announced a list of 30 focused players to prepare for the 2023 Women’s World Cup finals. Notably in this focused list, the leader of the Mai family called many young Cu players. Thi Huynh Nhu, Vu Thi Hoa, Bao Chau… besides familiar names like Huynh Nhu, Thuy Trang, Bich Thuy, Tuyet Dung…
At the 2023 Women’s World Cup, the Vietnamese women’s team is in Group E along with the US, the Netherlands and Portugal. According to the schedule, coach Mai Duc Chung’s army will meet the US (July 22), Portugal (July 27) and the Netherlands (August 1).
