In the Czech Republic, in April, in the first days after the expulsion of 18 employees of the Russian embassy in the Czech Internet segment, the activity of so-called trolls, who expressed pro-Russian views, virtually ceased, Seznam Zprávy reports, citing sources in the Czech special services.
The sharp decline in the activities of “Russian trolls” has also been confirmed by independent organizations fighting against the spread of disinformation on the Internet.
In April, the Czech Republic accused Russian intelligence agents of organizing an explosion at an ammunition depot in Vrbetice six years ago. The allegations were followed by the expulsion of Russian diplomats, who were described by the Czech authorities as members of the special services.
According to Seznam Zprávy, experts do not rule out the possibility that the trolls were directly run by Russian embassy staff. A spokesman for the counter-intelligence service said the version was being tested.
The Russian embassy in Prague said its staff had never engaged in disseminating disinformation on the Internet. “This is not in the tradition of Russian diplomacy,” the embassy said.
