Local residents complained that rescuers were unable to arrive in time to rescue survivors in the critical hours after the quake; others said there was insufficient machinery to drill through concrete walls.
Mehmet Yildiri, a resident of Adiyaman, said: “I didn’t see the rescuers until 2 pm the day after the earthquake… There is no government, no country, no police, no soldiers. Shameful! You left us to fend for ourselves .”
Erdogan has not yet visited Adiyaman for survey and condolences.
