The suicide of Mayor Hervé Neau, on February 11, in the premises of the town hall, upset the entire municipality of Rezé, and its elected officials in particular. But, beyond the emotion, the city of 40,000 inhabitants could not remain longer without a leader. An extraordinary municipal council therefore met this Thursday evening to proceed with the election of a new mayor.
And, unsurprisingly, it was Agnès Bourgeais, 48, ex-first assistant, who was chosen by the Rezéenne assembly. This left-wing woman, experienced in union and association commitments, had been nominated as a candidate by the political movement Rezé citoyenne.
