Regarding the use of several diabetes medications to treat obesity, “Rajai” emphasized in special statements to Masrawy that “this is not true from a medical point of view, since the medication has a therapeutic purpose is available in the market to treat diabetic patients without. being used for other purposes,” says: “As long as we have not given permission for it to be used in another treatment The patient must know about this, and the treating physician must know that he has permission for this use, especially since clinical trials and studies are being carried out on these drugs for specific therapeutic uses, so the side effects could be more harmful. “
The Vice-Chairman of the Medical Authority indicated cooperation with the Department of Free Treatment of the Ministry of Health in the implementation of inspection campaigns on private clinics and centers for weight loss and therapeutic nutrition to control any places that are not approved by the Ministry of Health and to supervise approved establishments. and clinics, as well as closely monitoring the Medicines Authority on pharmacies and drugstores.
Regarding receiving complaints from patients about the side effects of these medicines, Rajai explained, “There is more than one way to receive complaints, whether from patients or doctors about the side effects of medicines in general, through the website of the Authority or helpline 15301.”
He said: “Regarding complaints about weight loss medication, the patient must know the origin of the medication he is receiving, its name and therapeutic purpose, and buy it from approved pharmacies, because they are the authorized entity. to sell medicines, and he should refuse to get these medicines from clinics or private institutions. .”
