after the covid pandemic, the pharmacists of the Marne respond present for Ukraine

Marne pharmacists have collected several tens of tons of medicines for Ukraine. After the covid-19, here they are mobilized on another front. This Thursday, March 24, a truck left Reims for kyiv, the Ukrainian capital. Others will follow.

Guillaume Froment is a pharmacist in Mourmelon-le-Grand (Marne), a town well known for its huge military camp. From the start of conflict in Ukraine, He mobilized around him 23 pharmacists and of course patients. Very modestly he specifies that “During covid-19, we did our job. People rediscovered the role of the pharmacist.” Nothing extraordinary, nothing heroic therefore for him, dismissing with these words the crucial role played by the profession of pharmacists during the health crisis.

In Reims, this Thursday March 24, 2022, he does not move away from a large white van. With inside boxes of dressings for burns, hydroalcoholic solution, medication. They will take place in the truck’s trailer, which arrived empty from Ukraine and which leaves for kyiv without an ounce of space. “Peace is a priceless treasure”adds Guillaume Froment. “We are very well in France.”

Like the pharmacist from Mourmelon-le-Grand, dozens of them responded to the call of their colleague Moussly Issam. With its association Syria Solidarity Emergency, he has been mobilized for ten years to help the Syrian people. But a month ago, faced with the images, for the pharmacists of the Marne, the words emergencies and solidarity had to be combined in the plural.

So, like Guillaume Froment, Marne pharmacists raised awareness. The result is incredible: 150,000 euros worth of medicines and materials. “The idea, it comes from the images of this war. We cannot remain indifferent, it breaks your heart”, adds Moussy Islam. He is already promising to start a new convoy bound for Ukraine as soon as he can. From Kyiv.
