After the closure of Hyenas, Creative Assembly will once again focus on strategy games

Creative Assembly is above all known for its popular Total War series, although they have also dipped their toes into horror Alien: Isolation. The latest game they worked on, Hyenahowever, really stood out because it was a flashy online shooter that was supposed to be offered on a live service basis.

But despite the fact that it had come a long way in development and was playable at, among other things, Gamescom, Sega chose to scrap the game entirely a couple of months ago. In a conversation with its investors (via VGC) Sega has now told us a little more about how they think about Creative Assembly and its future, and strategy fans will be satisfied.

They said things were going so well during the pandemic that they wanted to speed up business, including allowing studios to expand into areas they weren’t familiar with. It went well in some cases, but not in others, and now they intend to once again let the studios focus on what they are good at, which in Creative Assembly’s case is “offline games in the RTS genre”.

Fun for desktop generals, as I said, but maybe less fun for those keeping their fingers crossed for one Alien: Isolation 2.
