A film about the life and work of Stefan Karadzha and Hadji Dimitar is being prepared by director Maxim Genchev after the scandal with the television premiere of the film “Botev”.
As online warfare rages over Vratsa’s fallen Balkan revolutionary poet, Genchev and his team work on the script for the new film. Similarly to that for Hristo Botev, for the new project funds will be sought from municipalities, companies and private donors.

The real war for the film “Botev” broke out in the days after the television premiere of the tape on BNT on January 2. Online comments poured in and most of them ruthlessly criticized Maxim Genchev’s film.
“The film about Botev offends the value system and ideals of Bulgarians for our national heroes,” said the head of the satirical theater Kalin Sarmenov.

“Nothing like the history and ideals of the great Botev. If this is what we bequeath to young people, it is better to destroy the state. When it comes to a national hero, this is not the way to do it,” Sarmenov he told the newspaper.

“We saw what he did with the tape on the Apostle. Let the man continue to work. But at least he shouldn’t distort things and history, as well as the values we all have for these great Bulgarians,” Sirmenov said.
The creator of the tape witnessed political attacks.
“They accuse my Botev of Russophilism, but my overall impression is that the most furious and sharp-eyed attackers didn’t see the film. I ask them what was tainted, they don’t say. They claim they watched 5 minutes and turned off the TV This is a pure sample of enemies attacking a rally of patriotism,” Genchev commented.
The director explained that the film has been on screens in cinemas across the country for 10 months, has been seen by more than 1 million people, and receives daily essays on the revolutionary poet from children all over the country.
“Now, suddenly, in the most vile and simple way, they began to attack. A madman, shouting, and the crowd gathers, not knowing what it is. But I pay no attention to them. I was used to it from “Deacon Levski”. We live in the era of stupidity. What can you do against it?” says Maxim Genchev and adds that most people like the film.
The descendant of revolutionary poet Boyan Botyov has also tested positive about the tape. The historian, great-grandson of Hristo Botev’s brother, gen. Kiril Botev told the newspaper that a good film can be made for a small amount of money.
“At first, I never thought it appropriate to make films about national shrines. I had preliminary conversations with Maxim Genchev. In the final, the hand of the Circassian shooting Botev is visible. Boyan was also present at the pre-premiere of the film at the Lumiere cinema, which was also attended by President Rumen Radev.
”In his speech on stage after the tape, the head of state also declared himself a skeptic, but after watching the film he was satisfied, and in the face of the young actor Deyan Zhekov the right person was found to skillfully play the role of the revolutionary”, added Botev and announced that a stamp with the face of Hristo Botev will be validated in parliament on Thursday.

President Rumen Radev’s daughter will star in Maxim Genchev’s new film. The president’s daughter enters the image of the young and beautiful Sara, who captivates the heart of Tsar Ivan Alexander, and the Bulgarian ruler takes her as his second wife, abandoning the already elderly Theodora. The shooting of the film starts in April and according to the plan, the film “1349 Summer of God” should be in theaters in January 2024 at the latest.
This was shared by the film’s co-producer, Desislava Kovacheva, who, together with Maxim Genchev, is the driving force behind the production. The producer is BNT, and 6 months after the film’s theatrical release, it will also be broadcast on public television.
“Darina was chosen in a casting among several contestants. We didn’t know she was the president’s daughter. She is very exotic. We were looking for a look that was not contemporary.
