The Prime Minister Kiril Petkov will take part in the celebrations in Koprivshtitsa on the occasion of the 146th anniversary of the April Uprising from 11.00 am on May 1, the press service of the cabinet announced.
Petkov will lay flowers at Todor Kableshkov’s grave, attend the official opening of the April Epic celebrations and watch the First Rifle show, which reproduces episodes of the uprising.
The prime minister was widely criticized for comparing the war there and its controversy earlier this week to the April Bulgarian uprising.
“Imagine if someone had said during the April Uprising, and said, ‘Well, it’s best for this uprising to end sooner, for these people not to be able to defend themselves. Is this a position? How do we take it, for to have peace faster, “Petkov said.
Vice President Iliana Yotova threatened Petkov at the highest level. “I would not advise anyone to look for an alibi for one or another solution in Bulgarian history, because he will make a big mistake. The parallel made today by Prime Minister Kiril Petkov was a big mistake,” Yotova said.
“Bulgarian history is very long and we have many examples where politicians, not taking into account national interests, have made decisions that have led to national catastrophes. So be more careful with historical parallels! I would like to remind the Prime Minister, that the heroes of the national liberation movement, of the April Uprising, are not “some people”, they have names. We tell our children about them and we are proud. I have not heard the simpler position on the April Uprising, “said the vice president.
