A number of initiatives protested before the special party conference of the Left in the Munzenbergsaal on Franz-Mehring-Platz, including Activists of the expropriation referendum who demanded the implementation of the successful decision. The party congress with 143 delegates is about the Debate coalition negotiations and vote on them. A majority is expected.
There is no time for a detailed election evaluation, said Party leader Katina Schubert. The state executive of the left had on Monday evening for the coalition negotiations pronounced. The “ability to act” must be secured for the next five years. She called for more investment in hospitals and a state budget that provides them. This also applies to the school building campaign and the expansion of public infrastructure and public transport.

In exploratory negotiations, compromises have to be made. “It is very important that we have to mobilize all of our expertise in order to draft a law.” These steps should be prepared. That is why there was a proposal to form a commission of experts. “If we want to be able to negotiate about it, we have to clear the way for it today,” said Schubert, who advocated coalition negotiations. Key points would have to be worked out in order to draft a corresponding law in a legally secure manner.
New buildings are an important issue for the SPD. But also for the left: “We want new affordable housing,” said Schubert. The Tempelhofer Feld, the backyards should not be built up. “We need clever concepts.” That is a task for the specialist negotiations. All instruments would have to be used to dampen rents as well. The environmental protection areas would have to be expanded.
Schubert promoted “good work”that for the Left a leitmotif may be. Good work must be combined with climate justice. Education, on the other hand, is a “difficult chapter” with a “bitter pill”, civil servant status. The SPD, the Greens and the Left had agreed on this in the exploratory talks. So far, the left has been against it. In the transport sector, the tram must be expanded, a closer frequency introduced and the municipalization of the S-Bahn. “We don’t want a breakup,” said Schubert.
“I think we have a chance to continue shaping this city. Let’s take the chance, let’s negotiate, ”concluded Schubert in her almost 20-minute speech.
