According to earlier information, the vehicles will be built at the US plant in Detroit-Hamtramck. GM is investing around three billion dollars there to build electric vehicles. Production is expected to start at the end of 2021. The new Hummer model, which is to be sold under the GMC brand, is expected to hit the stores in early 2022.
The plan to launch fully electric pickups first became known shortly after the electric car pioneer Tesla presented its first electrified e-truck in early December. The Cybertruck is also Tesla’s first pickup.
GM has not yet commented on its plans. The traditional American manufacturer had stopped producing the Hummer brand in 2010.
