The spacecraft carrying NASA’s Perseverance rover to Mars encountered technical difficulties Thursday evening. “It is currently operating using only its essential functions,” said NASA, several hours after its launch. Guest on Franceinfo this morning, Jean-Yves le Gall, president of CNES, gave reassuring news of the mission.
“Everything is fine, everything is settled,” he revealed. “Perseverance was a little cold last night because she went into an eclipse phase. And since she was cold, she turned off all her non-vital functions, she went into” survival “mode. morning, I got the signal that she was back in “cruise” mode, so everything is fine! ”he added.
“When we launch a probe like that, we have never been able to test it in space, so there are threshold levels that have to be adjusted. It was done that night and so there we left for 7 months of travel, until March, “explained Jean-Yves le Gall.
