After three operations and nearly a month in the “Pirogov” intensive care unit, 38-year-old Irena Pavlova remains in serious condition. Due to suspicions of a mistake, her relatives are seeking a second opinion.
“In every single hospital that I found contact with to contact the best in this field, the answer is – ‘due to the serious case of the patient from Pirogov hospital, they should internally request a second opinion or from the Ministry of Health'” , explained Teodora Koleva, Irena Pavlova’s sister.

From the Military Medical Academy, to which the relatives have also turned, they want “Pirogov” to officially request their expert to assist. So far this has not happened.
According to lawyer Maria Petrova, in emergency situations, it is the duty of the hospital to call a republican consultant.

“Otherwise, because of the ego of certain people, because of the reluctance to demonstrate some of the gaps in a treatment, we risk losing the life and health of a person. It is not right in such a situation for the patient’s relatives to go to extremes and go around private hospitals,” explained the medical law lawyer.
“Pirogov” claims that permission has been given for the relatives to find an expert.

The Ministry of Health added that a commission of surgeons prepared an epicrisis, which was provided to the relatives.
“We tell her that we are by her side, that she must have strength, that the Lord is holding her hand and will help her. We tell her that we take care of the children in the best way possible and no one will leave her. We will do everything for her,” added Teodora, Irena Pavlova’s sister.
Irena has two children – 1 and 12 years old. Medical surveillance review is ongoing.
