After Supreme Court ruling – State of New York wants to enshrine the right to abortion in its constitution

The Senate voted in favor of an amendment to the constitution that establishes a right to abortion and access to contraception. Now the House of Representatives of the state governed by the Democrats must first vote for the text before it can finally be presented to the voters in a referendum.

The Supreme Court of the United States recently overturned a landmark ruling that had been in place for decades and had enshrined a nationwide right to abortions. Accordingly, responsibility will in future lie with the states.
