After Self-Isolation Is a PCR Test Mandatory? Here’s the Doctor’s Explanation

TRIBUNJATENG.COM, SEMARANG – Self-isolation to stop the transmission of the corona virus is mandatory for people who are confirmed positive for Covid-19, both with mild and asymptomatic symptoms.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 patients who experience serious symptoms, such as shortness of breath, must be treated at a health facility for proper treatment.

Regarding this, Dr. dr. Erlina Burhan, M.Sc SpP(K), a pulmonary specialist from the Infection Division of the Pulmonology Department of Respiratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, gave a number of tips for undergoing self isolation at home.

Terms self isolation
dr. Erlina in a Webinar entitled “Independent Isolation of Covid Patients”, Friday, July 2 2021, explained the conditions a person can do self isolation at home, as follows:

1. In the house there is a separate room from others.

2. Not at home with family members who are at high risk, such as infants, the elderly, people with low immune systems, or family members who have diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

How long is the time self isolation?
Time to live self isolation may be different for each patient. Covid-19 patients without symptoms can complete isolation in a faster time.

Self-isolation, even if asymptomatic, must be carried out for 10 days from the time the swab is taken. If the symptoms are mild, do it self isolation for 13 days.

“For close contacts, 14 days (self-isolation) since contact with Covid-19 cases. Why 14 days? Because 14 days is the incubation period for the virus,” he said.

What to do?
For people who are confirmed positive for Covid-19 and must do self isolation at home, dr. Erlina explained what things need to be done every day, which are as follows:
