His statistics speak for themselves: Erling Haaland was THE top striker at Borussia Dortmund for over two and a half years. The Norwegian, who switched to Manchester City in the summer, scored 86 goals in 89 competitive games as a BVB player. However, there was one thing he never managed to achieve during his time with Westphalia: a five-pack. Haaland only realized this dream of scoring five goals in a single game last Tuesday as a ManCity player – in the 7-0 demonstration of power in the Champions League against RB Leipzig. However, the 22-year-old has not forgotten his former club – and above all his former coach. Shortly before BVB’s Bundesliga home game against 1. FC Köln on Saturday evening, Dortmund coach Edin Terzic Sky revealed the content of a WhatsApp message from his former attacker.

“Finally, I did it,” (I finally did it) wrote Haaland to his former sponsor in Dortmund after the game in Leipzig. When the Norwegian international switched to BVB in early 2020, Terzic was still an assistant coach under head coach Lucien Favre.
As Terzic further explained, Haaland looked after him with a special task after the 5-2 win against Hertha BSC in November 2020. In this game, Haaland had to make way for the then 16-year-old debutant Youssoufa Moukoko in the 85th minute. “He then asked me: ‘Please make sure, if I score four more goals at some point, that the coach doesn’t come up with the idea of substituting me again before I’ve scored five,'” revealed the coach.
He also showed that Haaland is really that ambitious right after the game against Leipzig. City coach Pep Guardiola replaced the five-time goalscorer after just over an hour – which Haaland didn’t like that much. “I told Pep when I was substituted that I would have liked to have scored a double hat-trick, but what can you do,” joked the goalscorer.
