FLY – A missile fragment fell in the area Moldova on Monday, when the air defense system Ukraine respond to the wave of attack Russia . A Russian expert said the debris came from a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile.

Parts of the missile fell near the town of Briceni, near Moldova’s border with Ukraine. The Moldovan Interior Ministry said a police patrol found the missile, without specifying its origin.

However, photos shared by Moldovan authorities show that the debris came from the booster stage of a missile launched by the S-300 air defense system, a Soviet-era platform still used by the Ukrainian military.

Russian military expert Alexey Leonkov told RIA Novosti that the wreckage belongs to the S-300PS/PT, actively used by Ukraine in an attempt to repel high-precision Russian attacks. Russia TodayTuesday (6/12/2022).

The incident occurred during a wave of Russian missile attacks on Ukraine. Russian troops have carried out repeated air strikes against Ukrainian military and infrastructure targets since early October. The Kremlin described the attack as a necessary response to Kyiv’s provocative attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure, including the Crimean Bridge and energy facilities.

It was during one of these Russian missile barrages that a Ukrainian S-300 shell crashed near the Polish village of Przewodow last month, killing two civilians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky blamed Russia for the incident and called on NATO to respond, before leaders of the US-led alliance publicly acknowledged that the missile in question was Ukrainian.

The same claim was also made by Kiev regarding this incident on Monday.

“This proves once again that Russian missile terrorism poses a serious threat not only to the security of Ukraine, but also to the security of neighboring countries,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko wrote on Facebook.

Without admitting that his troops fired missiles, Nikolenko called on the West to provide his country with better air defense systems.

According to Moldovan authorities, a Russian missile shot down by Ukrainian air defenses crashed in Moldova in October. The impact caused some property damage, but no casualties.
