After only four months as CEO: Michael Lohscheller is leaving VinFast

After only four months in office, the Vietnam adventure of the former Opel boss Michael Lohscheller has already come to an end. The 53-year-old manager will “return to Europe for personal reasons,” said the conglomerate Vingroup on Monday in Hanoi. The 47-year-old financial expert Le Thi Thu Thuy, who continues to act as deputy chief executive of the entire group, will head the VinFast auto division, which has been headed by Lohscheller since September.

The first Vietnamese car brand is pursuing ambitious goals with electric vehicles on the world market and has set up a highly automated production facility in Hai Phong. It was only in mid-November that Vinfast presented itself as a global e-brand at the Los Angeles Auto Show and unveiled two new models. These should come onto the European and North American markets in the coming year. The largest shareholder in the Vingroup is the billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong.

From Lohscheller’s environment it was said that contact with the family had suffered from the pandemic conditions. Lohscheller now wants to sound out offers from Europe.

Since 2017, the top manager had restructured the car manufacturer Opel in the new parent company PSA, which in turn merged with Fiat Chrysler in the new Stellantis Group at the beginning of 2021. The former Ford and Renault manager Uwe Hochgeschurtz has taken the place of Lohscheller at Opel.
