The traditional ARD Christmas show “The Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights” with Florian Silbereisen is celebrating its anniversary. For 20 years, Silbereisen has been starting the Advent season with the big show at the opening of the Christmas markets, according to the responsible MDR (Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk).
This year, according to the broadcaster, Thomas Gottschalk, who made headlines in recent weeks with his book “Unfiltered,” will be there.
The Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights: Another surprise guest
The announcement of another “surprise guest” has given rise to speculation in recent days about Helene Fischer, who recently released her children’s song album and is known to have previously been in a relationship with Silbereisen.
Traditionally, ARD broadcasts “The Advent Festival” from Suhl on the Saturday before the first Advent – this time on November 30th. Last year around 5 million people tuned in on December 2nd. In 2022, the show could be seen once on the Friday evening after the 1st Advent because of the Football World Cup.
The festive hit show has been around since 2004. The contemplative entertainment program, in which the so-called light of peace from Bethlehem is passed on, has had its current name since 2011.
In addition to Gottschalk, Florian Silbereisen is expecting guests in 2024 such as Andrea Berg, DJ Ötzi, Ross Antony, Ella Finally, Wincent Weiss, Andy Borg, Inka Bause, Semino Rossi and the Nuremberg Christ Child. Rolf Zuckowski is also celebrating several anniversaries in the “Advent Festival” anniversary show, according to MDR.
The 74-year-old Gottschalk is considered as a reader. In addition to the numerous musical performances, a celebrity traditionally reads out an Advent story.
In the past ten years these have been Guido Maria Kretschmer (2023), Dieter Hallervorden (2022), Bülent Ceylan (2021), Uschi Glas (2020), Marianne Sägebrecht (2019), Michelle Hunziker (2018), Hannelore Elsner (2017), Mario Adorf (2016), Ruth Maria Kubitschek (2015) and Christiane Hörbiger (2014).
