At just 10 years old — an age that he has maintained for more than two decades — Ash Ketchum is one of the best Pokémon trainers out there. Since the anime was released in 1997, we have seen the child travel through various and different places without an adult accompanying him or without his parents being aware of what is happening to him.
We have seen his mother from time to time, but nothing is known about his father: neither his face, nor his name, is more; It hasn’t even been mentioned… until now.
This December 25, the most recent film of the franchise, Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, was released in Japan and as the director of the film, Tetsuo Yajima, announced several days ago, for the first time the subject of Ash’s father was discussed .
In the film, Ash accompanies two characters, Koko; a boy who lives in the jungle; and Zarude, his inseparable pokémon friend; that they have more than a friendship relationship, a parent-child relationship. This coexistence will make the young coach remember what he himself lived with his father.
At one point in the film, Ash shares with Koko a moment from his childhood in which his friends laughed at him for his dream of becoming a Pokémon Champion. However, the boy assures that it was his father who encouraged him to fulfill his dream and never give up.
This single mention of Ash is all we have. There are no more details, no images; no clues to his identity; But at least this reveals that his father encouraged him to follow his dream of being a Pokémon trainer.
