After more than 200 years, the Norbertine fathers of Grimbergen brew their own beer again: “A dream come true”

“In our library there are still many old books and notes about the brewing process in our abbey,” says Father Karel enthusiastically. “We discovered a lot of things from the past there. So we remain guardians of the concept, but also look to the future with three new beers.”

The first beer, the Ignis Quadruple, refers to the word ‘fire’ and the fact that the abbey has been burned down three times in its 900-year history. The second beer was given the name Astrum Pale Ale, and refers to the popular observatory Mira, which is located on the site of and in the abbey. Finally, there is the Magnum Opus Brut, which is made with a specific wine yeast, which gives it a taste similar to that of Sauvignon Blanc.

“We are putting Grimbergen back on the map with this brewery and the associated experience center. It is a dream come true for us and for the municipality”, Father Karel concludes proudly.
