After modernization, the BMW X5 and X6 have more power and a different look from the outside and inside

While, for example, the new 7 series or the iX and XM models shock with their design, the pair of X5 and X6, even after the facelift, bet on a relatively traditional note. Modernization brought in narrower headlights with arrow-shaped daytime running lights.

The bumper is also newly shaped, with the so-called kidneys being divided more in width. The rear has a new rear lamp graphic that shows the letter X.

The coupé-SUV X6 has received a more aggressive front, thanks to the dark part in the middle. The stern has changed minimally, some shades of paint or wheel rims are new.

Even more has changed inside. The X5 and X6 each get the latest curved dashboard screen, which combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch infotainment display mounted behind a single glass panel that creates the appearance of one large digital display.

BMW expects customers to use touch and voice activation for many of the system’s controls, but the traditional iDrive rotary dial remains here unlike on smaller models.

The range of power units has been completely redesigned, resulting in, for example, a longer electric range of the plug-in hybrid BMW X5 xDrive50e and the use of 48V mild hybrid technology in all other variants, including six-cylinder and eight-cylinder models.

The basis is an in-line three-liter six-cylinder gasoline or diesel engine with an output of 280 kilowatts, 380 horsepower, as in the xDrive40i, or 210 kW/286 hp in the case of the xDrive30d diesel version. The new highlight is the M60i xDrive version, the eight-cylinder previously marked with the number 50 still has a volume of 4.4 liters, but now an output of 390 kW/530 hp.

The X5 also adds the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid system with a six-cylinder gasoline engine, a system output of 360 kW/390 hp and an electric range of 94 to 110 km according to the WLTP protocol.

The new products will go on sale in the Czech Republic in April, the X5 starts at 2,017,600 CZK and the X6 at 2,142,400 CZK including VAT.
