A year after Maria Bakalova was nominated for the BAFTA Awards for her role in “Borat 2”, another Bulgarian – Martin Hristov, was evaluated by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
The actor from the troupe of the Aleko Konstantinov Satirical Theater has starred in a British short film, which received a nomination for the prestigious awards. The film “Three Meetings of the Extraordinary Committee” tells through metaphors about Brexit, and the events take place in a fictional country, very similar to the Balkan countries.
The short film is in black and white and was shot in just two days in a village near Pernik. The cast in it is entirely Bulgarian. Besides Martin Hristov, Stefan Kashev, Ivan Nestorov, Valentin Goshev and Vasil Draganov are also in front of the cameras.
“I got the role after a casting in which I participated in 2019. The film is the work of British directors known as the Jones tandem. It was shot together with B2Y, part of New Boyana Film Studios,” says Martin Hristov.
In addition to the BAFTA nomination, the film has won awards at international festivals in Moscow, San Jose and others. And an actor who was on one of the juries commented that the achievements of the film are due entirely to the cast, which is a great recognition for the team.
The BAFTA Awards Ceremony will take place on March 13 in London.
