After Madara’s gender reassignment surgery, her mother reveals a fortune teller’s prophecy to her

Madara says that when she told her mother about the decision to have the operation, she accepted and understood. Mom was also the first person Madara called after waking up from anesthesia.

“The first day itself is magical,” says Madara. “Wake up happy, still under the influence of morphine, pick up the phone, start calling everyone… I called my mom first. I call her with a video call, I look at myself on the phone and think: wow, how did I not see the beauty before me! Although the hair was – madness, the sight of me – madness, but – if a person shines, he is happy, you can see it.”

Mom told Madara about a prophecy that has now come true.

Madara says, “A fortune teller had told her, ‘You will have two sons, but you will also have a daughter.'” At the time, my mother did not understand. When I told her about myself, my mother said, “Wow, how it came true… Then she told me , that throughout her life that prophecy had come to her mind from time to time and she always thought: where is that daughter? And lo, where am I!”

The only thing that mom had to get used to after Madara’s operation was what to call him now. “It was difficult for mom only during the transition process, when she had to get used to my name – not he but she and so on.”

Madara admits that it is painful and annoying when someone calls him male. At first, after the operation, Madara even developed a kind of defense mechanism: she learned not to hear the endings of words. When the local shop assistant repeatedly calls him by his correct name and gender, Madara doesn’t even register it at first.
