Manchester United director of football John Murtough has announced the departure of Carrick from Old Trafford. He admitted that it was difficult to accept this fact. However, the club respects the decision he has made.
“Michael leaves with a heartfelt thank you and best wishes from everyone at Manchester United after 15 years of outstanding service to the club as a player and as a coach,” said Murtough.
“Although we are sad to see him leave, we respect and understand Michael (Carrick)’s decision,” he continued, quoted from the official Manchester United website.
Carrick was assigned to be the Red Devils’ interim tactician following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Previously, he was part of the MU coaching staff since 2018.
Serving as interim tactician, Carrick made it three games unbeaten in all competitions.
Winning from Villarreal 2-0, drawing against Chelsea 1-1 and victory against Arsenal 3-2 became a sweet closing for Carrick’s career with Manchester United.
Carrick admitted the decision to leave Manchester United was very difficult. However, with full consideration he decided to leave and start a new page.
