All of Sofia will be blocked today due to a protest by the KNSB and KT “Podkrepa” trade unions. It is therefore advisable to avoid traveling by car.
The protest began early in the morning in front of the National Assembly, when the two unions took buses there with their sympathizers.
However, the real blockade will take place at noon, when the demonstrators will start a motorcade through the capital.
The announced procession route, which the unions threaten to be spectacular, starts from “Narodno zabrenie” square. After that, the trade unionists will likely continue their protest in front of parliament.
The two unions are demanding an increase in salaries by the end of this year and the adoption of a budget for the next one as soon as possible. However, the second requirement cannot be met, as the interim government refused to present parliament with a budget for 2023. This will also stop the other demands of the KNSB and the “Podkrepa” to raise the minimum wage to BGN 850, a 20 % increase in salaries of officials, etc. Trade unions also have demands on the energy sector.
