The election at FC Barcelona is defeated, unsurprisingly, Joan Laporta is returning to the post of club president (all information >>>).
The priorities of the 58-year-old, who is faced with a number of challenges in light of the difficult financial situation of the Catalans, are clear: first of all, it is important to convince Lionel Messi to stay at Barca.
“I can call Jorge Messi tonight if I win,” Laporta announced on Sunday after his own vote. In fact, Laporta has often emphasized the good relationship with the Argentine superstar and his father during the weeks of the election campaign.
The chances that the 33-year-old will extend his contract, which expires in the summer, have increased significantly due to the outcome of the election. Messi himself was voting for the first time since playing at Barca on Sunday.
“Having the best player in the world come with his son to vote is an example of what we said: Leo loves Barcelona! The best player in the world loves Barcelona! Hopefully he’ll stay at Barca. That’s what we do want, “said Laporta after the election.
But Barca fans no longer seem to agree that Messi should stay. “TV3” conducted a survey among Barca members: 65.7 percent believe that a contract extension is essential for Messi’s club, 30.7 percent disagree.
