It seems that the French team’s 14-0 victory over Gibraltar has whetted the Dutch team’s appetite to achieve a landslide victory over the obscure team in turn.
Gibraltar will face the Netherlands in the eighth and final round of qualifiers for the 2024 European Nations Cup.
The match represents an achievement for both parties, as the Netherlands has a great chance of maintaining second place in the standings of Group B, while Gibraltar has no points in last place.
The first leg between the Netherlands and Gibraltar ended with Orange winning 3-0.
However, the words of Ronald Koeman, coach of the Dutch national team, suggest that his team wants to achieve a strong result from the renewed confrontation at Al-Jarf Stadium.
The 60-year-old said, “The purpose of the match is for us to be able to say after it ends that we did our best to score the largest possible number of goals.”
Koeman continued in statements reported by the Football Orange sports website, “It is also important that we do not suffer injuries due to ridiculous things.”
Koeman did not hide his intention to give some players, who did not participate in previous matches, the opportunity to participate against Gibraltar.
The former Dutch international confirmed, “They all really want to play, and that is great. We will change some positions (in the match)… I think it is good for some elements to get the opportunity.”
Regarding the possibility of the players playing their first international match ever with the Dutch national team logo, Koeman admitted that it was “possible.”
