Diepholz/Munich. A 65-year-old man has been convicted by the Munich district court of incitement in connection with the Barenburg murder.

Shortly after the murder of a 17-year-old girl in the municipality of Kirchdorf in the Diepholz district, the Munich resident published a picture on Instagram as a previously unknown person. According to the court, the picture referred to the killing of the 17-year-old in a tasteless and ultimately inflammatory manner.

The image was intended to falsely give the impression that a refugee or migrant had killed the young girl. Andreas B. from Kirchdorf is the perpetrator and was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in July 2024. The mayor of the Kirchdorf municipality discovered the picture shortly after the crime and handed it over to the police for further processing.

The police opened criminal proceedings on suspicion of sedition. Initial investigations led to the 65-year-old man from Munich via the user name. Further investigations by the responsible police in Munich and the Munich public prosecutor’s office then led to the man being charged with incitement to hatred.

A district court in Munich has now sentenced the 65-year-old to a fine of 150 daily rates of 15 euros each for incitement to hatred.
