The shares of O2 and Monety Money Bank are falling sharply on the Prague Stock Exchange in the morning. This happened after the announcement that billionaire Petr Kellner, the owner of the PPF investment group, died in a helicopter accident on Saturday. O2 belongs to PPF’s portfolio, in Moneta PPF should acquire about a quarter of the shares. Moneta’s securities lost more than three percent on the Prague market around 9:30 a.m., O2 depreciated over a percent. It follows from the data of the stock exchange website.

PPF bought a majority stake in O2 from the Spanish company Telefónica in early 2014. In January this year, PPF returned to its merger plan with Moneta Money Bank, and after settling the transaction, PPF should own over 28 percent of the bank’s shares. For the second time, Moneta received a proposal to start negotiations on unification with Air Bank, Home Credit and this time with the Zonky brand.

The merger of Moneta and Air Bank may create the third largest bank on the Czech market after Česká spořitelna and ČSOB, depending on the number of clients. Moneta’s Board of Directors has unanimously concluded that PPF’s proposal to repurchase part of Moneta’s shares is in line with the interests of the bank and its shareholders. PPF launched the process for the possible unification of Air Bank, the Czech and Slovak Home Credit and Monety Money Bank in the autumn of 2018, but the transaction was eventually canceled.

The richest Czech, Petr Kellner, died in a helicopter accident in the Alaskan mountains. Foreign media spokeswoman Jitka Tkadlecová confirmed the information of foreign media about the tragic death of the 56-year-old ČTK businessman. Apart from Kellner, 50-year-old Benjamin Larochaix is among the victims of the plane crash, according to Alaskan police. In addition to them, two of the local guides and a helicopter pilot died, one man survived and is in serious condition in the hospital.
