The day after her conviction, Brigitte Barèges appointed her successor as mayor of Montauban. It will be Axel de Labriolle, his first assistant. In the agglomeration, another of his lieutenants, Thierry Deville, will succeed him. The outgoing mayor explains that the choice was made on logical hierarchical criteria, within each institution.
Brigitte Barèges spoke to journalists this Wednesday evening at Montauban Town Hall. But in the reception hall, there were also many elected officials from the agglomeration, who applauded her at length.
Axel de Labriolle new mayor of Montauban
“This is not a succession, but a transitional period” declared the next mayor of Montauban. “A bit like for footballers, if we had to play ten for a yellow card for a while“. Axel de Labriolle, first deputy, is a newcomer to Brigitte Barèges’s team. Elected in the last ballot in June 2020, he took the place of Brigitte Barèges’ first deputy (historic), Pierre-Antoine Lévi.
“The town of Montauban is temporarily orphaned”
Thierry Deville, First Vice-President of the Montauban agglomeration, therefore logically inherits from this Grand Montauban. He is one of Brigitte Barèges’s closest collaborators and activists. “The town of Montauban is temporarily orphaned “ insists this lawyer, who defends the mayor: “We cannot take away from the Montalbanais an election with more than 52% of the votes. (…) If the Court of Appeal returns to the judgment, Brigitte Barèges will again become de facto mayor of Montauban “.
