Civil defense alarm in Carinthia: Weitra fire brigade helps out with a large pump.
“Stay at home”, the emergency services in Carinthia warn of the danger to life from flooding and mudslides as a result of massive rainfall. Six comrades from the Weitra fire brigade (Gmünd district) did not stay at home: They moved out with the large pump to help.
At noon on August 4th, the Carinthian state fire brigade association asked the Lower Austrian state association for support because of the heavy rains that night. A civil defense alarm had been raised in some parts of the country beforehand. After the OK by state fire director Dietmar Fahrafellner, a total of five SPA 900 large pumps together with a Unimog as a towing vehicle left Lower Austria at around 3 p.m. and headed south. Among them are the Weitraer Floriani from the Waldviertel and a delegation from Horn, who have the strongest pump in the Gmünd district.
The sextet is led by Deputy Commander Markus Kreindl, with Bernhard Prinz, Daniel Haubner, Gerhard Kugler, Jonas Haslinger and Marcel Kreindl at his side. The destination for the reception and the distribution to the places of action was initially called Völkermarkt, the Weitra fire brigade is equipped for a multi-day operation, among other things thanks to the camp beds that have been carried along.
