After Hanau: Again shots at the shisha bar

Stuttgart. Three days after the attack in Hanau, the window of a shisha bar was shot in Stuttgart. As reported by the police, unknown persons fired shots on two window panes of a building complex on Saturday, which includes a shisha bar. The perpetrators therefore shot at a pane in the entrance area of the building and at a window in the closed shisha bar.

An employee of the bar discovered the damaged window on Saturday afternoon and alerted the police. Specialists from the criminal police, including a firearms expert from the State Criminal Police Office, secured evidence that, according to the Stuttgart police, must now be evaluated. Since the motive for the act was so far completely unclear, the state security had taken over the investigation.

On Wednesday evening, a 43-year-old German in Hanau apparently killed nine people with foreign roots in a shisha bar and kiosk with an attached café for racial reasons.

Thousands of people on a demonstration against right-wing extremism

After the apparently racially motivated attack in Hanau, several thousand people demonstrated against right-wing extremism in the German city on Saturday. The organizers of the alliance “Solidarity instead of division” spoke of around 6,000 participants. Meanwhile, Green Party leader Robert Habeck also spoke out for an observation of the right-wing populist AfD by the constitutional protection.

Relatives of the victims also spoke at the rally on Freedom Square in downtown Hanau. Representatives of the Kurdish community of Germany also laid wreaths at one of the two crime scenes on the Heumarkt. Cem Özdemir, a member of the German Bundestag, also took part in the commemoration.

Habeck told the “Passauer Neue Presse” that Thuringian AfD head Björn Höcke and his “wing” had long since arrived in the middle of the party. Accordingly, the entire AfD is a case for the protection of the constitution. The relativizations and downplaying of the Hanau murders by AfD politicians are unbearable. “This party is fueling racism and encouraging right-wing extremism,” added the Green Party leader.

Politicians from the Union, the SPD and the FDP had previously demanded that the AfD be monitored by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
