The floods in North Rhine-Westphalia resulted in canceled trains and delayed railways. Now the train traffic should flow again – only commuters still have to be patient.
Long-distance rail traffic is running again without restrictions after the flood disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to information from the railway on Tuesday, the trains between Cologne, Wuppertal and Hagen as well as in the Ruhr area are running again.
The connections can also be used again without interruption on the Cologne routes in the direction of the Rhine-Main area as well as between Cologne and Brussels and in the direction of Amsterdam.
Regional connections around Cologne continue to be affected
Commuters and travelers in local and regional transport, on the other hand, must continue to expect restrictions. In the flood regions, seven bridges and 24 kilometers of rail lines are no longer or only partially available.
Seven regional routes are affected, some of which have to be newly built or extensively renovated. A total of 80 train stations were damaged by the storm. Tracks over a length of 600 kilometers are affected by the consequences of the storm. Deutsche Bahn speaks of repair and reconstruction work that will take weeks or even months.
