After failure, Ingenuity helicopter makes the fourth flight on Mars – News

After a technical failure, NASA performed this Friday (30) the fourth flight of the Ingenuity helicopter on Mars. An image taken by one of the cameras of the Perseverance rover, which took the vehicle to the ground of the red planet in February, was released by the profiles of the American space agency.

The photo shows the Ingenuity farther from the rover than on all three other previous flights. On Thursday, NASA had already released a Perseverance photo taken by the helicopter after the third successful take-off.

A video was also published showing the shadow of Ingenuity passing on Martian soil during the previous flight.

The Mars 2020 Mission was launched in July 2020 with the goal of advancing the exploration of Mars. The Rover Persevarence is responsible for collecting samples of soil and rocks and also monitoring the seismic activities on the planet with ultrasensitive equipment.

Ingenuity was a challenge for Nasas engineers due to the conditions of the Mars Mars, which is much less dense than here on Earth. So far, all flights performed have been successful and scientists have managed to have an aerial view of the planet.

In the first three flights, the researchers completed the first phase of the project, which was simply taking off and taking short journeys in the rarest atmosphere on Mars. Now, in the second stage, the focus is on “demonstrating flight operations that future aircraft will be able to use”, according to the agency.
