Another Czech face looks down on New York: singer Lenny. She became another member of the EQUAL playlist of the Swedish streaming giant Spotify. After Ewa Farná, this is the second Czech Republic in a short time in the advertising space, the rental of which costs about three million dollars a month and up to half a million people pass by every day.

Playlist EQUAL, which wants to give more space to musicians and thus promote gender equality in the music industry, launched Spotify on the occasion of International Women’s Day and adds more and more faces to it. In addition to Lenny and Ewa Farná, the playlist also includes a Czech singer living in London, Aiko.


The idea to include Lenny among important musicians came directly from Spotify. “As a label, we work with Spotify and Lenny chose her new song. They told us they would be interested in her and if we agreed. And of course we agreed, “describes Tereza Burdová from the Universal publishing house, which Lenny represents.

As part of the EQUAL program, Spotify has prepared special playlists with a selection of the best songs from female artists. Among other things, it has created a directory with artists across the industry, which will allow creators to collaborate with women.


According to statistics, they are still under-represented in the music industry. “It’s up to us to move the industry,” commented Marian Dicus, Spotify’s vice president, on the launch of the global campaign.

According to Burdová, it is impossible to say whether other Czechs will appear within the campaign. The campaign is relatively new and is constantly evolving.

It does not work as a potential list – Spotify focuses on new songs and includes in the playlist those that companies find interesting.

In the past, Czech models Eva Herzigová and Karolína Kurková also appeared on billboards in Times Square, and recently tennis player Karolína Plíšková joined the advertising campaign for the Fila sports brands.
