Gas, electricity, petrol and diesel have already risen sharply in recent months and now the prices of food and furniture are also rising. Food was 4.9 percent more expensive in February than a year earlier, furniture almost 10 percent. In January there were still price increases of 4.3 and 6.7 percent respectively.
The Central Bureau of Statistics registered an exceptionally high inflation of 6.2 percent in February, but that percentage was slightly lower than in the previous month when it measured 6.4 percent.
The February figures do not yet show the effect on prices of the war in Ukraine. That war and subsequent sanctions against Russia are fueling a further rise in oil and gas prices.
